Cafés with free wireless Internet - the Gothenburg guide

Author Linda Genborg 2008-12-05

If you like your computer time with a side serving of a cappuccino and chocolate cake, we recommend a trip to one of Gothenburg's cafés that offer free wireless internet connection.

Here's a guide to the best online cafés in town (source Göteborgs-Posten).

Blue Mountain Café at Skanstorget 4, was rated five out of five in GP's test. It scored points for its large tables that easily fit both laptops and coffee cups, its many power points to save us from failing laptop batteries, and a connection speed that was more than acceptable (despite many computers being online at the same time).

Café Java (Vasagatan 23), Condeco (Fredsgatan 14), and Café Tintin (Engelbrektsgatan 52) shared second place in the test.

Café Java has big tables, fast connection, and many power points. The only negatives are bad light, and loud guests. Condeco has the fastest connection of the test, but small tables and few power points. Café Tintin has big tables, but few power points, and varying connection quality (the Internet connection worked better with a Mac than with a PC).

Kaffemoster (Linnégatan 62) and Cello Café (Andra Långgatan) had good enough Internet connections but few power points, bad light and noisy guests that made it difficult to concentrate on work (if that's why you're there).

Da Matteo (Södra Larmgatan 14) and Kafé Marmelad (Mariagatan 17) both have really small tables that hardly fit an average size laptop. Da Matteo has pretty poor Internet connection, and the PC computer used in the test couldn't connect at all. Kafé Marmelad was also difficult to connect to, and there is a time limit of 30-45 minutes (the staff weren't sure).

Other cafés in Gothenburg that are known to offer Internet connections:

- Kardemumma at Mariagatan

- Café Teatergatan at Teatergatan
- Da Matteo Torrefazione at Vallgatan
- Bagatell at Kungsgatan
- Magasin 11 at Magasinsgatan
- Starcups at Plantagegatan
- Muffins mm at Linnégatan
- Muffins mm at Haga Nygata
- Egg and Milk at Övre Husargatan
- Condeco at Linnégatan

If you like it quiet, libraries also offer free wireless Internet (just sign up for a library card).
