May the 8th is a bank holiday in France in memory of the German capitulation at the end of World War Two in 1945.



Every year on this day the French President lays a wreath under the Arc de Triomphe, on the grave of the unknown soldier.
Everywhere in France mayors and their town councillors lay a wreath at the war memorial.
