POLAND: Tokyo Sushi – workshops in a Japanese restaurant

Joanna Mika-Hadelka 2008-04-01

Japanese cuisine is famous worldwide. It is so different from the dishes that are served in every European home or restaurant. To compare and experience it a European Club at ZSEI in Swietochlowice, a secondary school of Economics and ICT, went to Tokyo Sushi – a Japanese restaurant in a neighbouring town Chorzow.

March 18th2008. A group of students who entered Tokyo Sushi was welcomed by the delicate fragrance of aromatic incense sticks and traditional Japanese music.

At the very beginning we were served a flavoured green tea and misushiru – a fish soup with sesame seeds.

After that we attended a demonstration on preparing sushi. Some of us could even try to make it on their own.

The cook, who had spent a year in Japan, was telling us about Japanese cuisine and the ingredients needed to make sushi.

Some of them are difficult to reach in our country and only some shops have them on stock. Tokyo set which we were served the demonstration looked really amazing. A real feast for the eyes!

When all of us had already tasted sushi Ms Izabela Jutsz and her friend, a student of Japanese faculty in Krakov showed us photos taken in Japan and told us about its culture, traditions and everyday life in this beautiful country.

At the end of our visit in Tokyo Sushi we were served a delicious desert – litchi sorbet.

The workshop in the Japanese restaurant was an unforgettable experience for all of us.
