SICILY: Egyptian obelisk

The statue was again abandoned after the earthquake of 1693. In 1727, however, a Dutchman passing through Catania, Philippe d'Orville, asked that it be re-erected, together with the Egyptian obelisk which now stands above it, and in 1736 Vaccarini built the fountain on which it now stands.
