Science - Melting

Margaret Hay 2008-01-20

While making chocolate crispie cakes, the children were able to discover some of the properties of chocolate.
We broke the chocolate up. It was hard.
/Power Point presentation/

We melted the chocolate in the microwave. What happened to the chocolate? It changed. Why did it change? It is now soft and runny.

We asked the children what else would melt chocolate?

- Holding it in my hand
- The sun
- Fire
- The heater
- In my pocket

We put some of the melted chocolate in the fridge. It changed again. It went hard and cold. Why?

We mixed the crispies into the melted chocolate. When the chocolate was hard we ate them.
