Documentary film: "School was my home" / Documental "La escuela era mi casa"
By Luis Ricardo
The Swedish filmmaker Anna Cnattingius presented her documentary film "The school was home" at the International Freinet Teachers Meeting, RIDEF, in Ljungskile.
The film presents the testimony of Ascención Caro, a former student at Fuentenueva school in Granada and follows up the wonderful tradition of Freinet Pedagogy in this Spanish region, through the photographs and 8mm school films taken by active learning icon Ana María Guerrero. In these films children build wooden looms and print with a mimeograph.
"School was my home" also shows animations and short stories created by students from Granada's Freinet schools. One of the stories, read by a pre-school girl:
"In a pool with shallow water a lizard drowned. My friend and I took it out with a brush".
After the screening Anna Cnattingius and Teresa Flores from MCEP Granada lead a discussion about the Freinet Pedagogy History and the possibilities of documenting our classes and projects on video.
