Botanical Gardens
The Botanicals Gardens has around 20,000 species of plants from all over the world and it's actually ranked in Guide Michelin. Highlights include the rock garden, the greenhouses and an impressive orchid collection of 1,500 species. It's also beautiful park for a walk or picnic. There is a voluntary admission fee of 20 kronor.

Getting there: tram 1, 2, 7, 8, 13 to Botaniska Trädgården

Feskekörka
Feskekörka, or "the Fish Church" in English, has been around since 1873. It is an iconic Gothenburg building that is still the best place to buy fresh seafood in the city. It's centrally located, near Järntorget and Hagakyrkan tram stops, and has a prime position alongside the canal.

Open: Tuesday-Saturday
Getting there: tram 1, 3, 6, 9, 11 to Hagakyrkan

The Swedish Ship Götheborg is a replica of the East Indiaman Götheborg, which after sailing the world ran aground in the middle of the entrance to its home port of Gothenburg in 1745. Long forgotten, it was discovered by a diver 240 years later.

After participating in the Royal wedding celebrations in Stockholm, the ship has returned to Gothenburg where it will remain until August 14. Explore the ship while it docks at Stenpiren (100m from the Casino Cosmopol) for the summer.

Open: Monday-Sunday 11.00-18.00, the pier is open from 11.00-late at night.
Getting there: bus 50, 60, 63 to Lilla Torget, or the ferry Älvsnabben to Rosenlund

Haga
Haga is Gothenburg's old district. It's a small but charming part of town with narrow cobblestone streets, specialty stores and lots of cafés - a great place for a walk followed by a kanelbullé (cinnamon bun) and coffee. If you are feeling energetic, take the large stairway at Skanstorget to Skansen Kronan, an iconic tower built in 1687. It offers great views of the city.

Rollercoasters, flumerides and bumper cars - Liseberg is Scandinavia's largest amusement park. It has 35 rides and attractions and last year it had over two million visitors. During summer, the park holds regular concerts, which are included in the entry fee of 80 kronor (note, there are additional costs for rides). It is located opposite the Korsvägen tram stop.

Getting there: tram 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 13 to Korsvägen

Saluhallen

Saluhallen is Gothenburg's indoor food market located in the heart of the city at Kungstorget. Whether you are after sausages, cheese, smoked salmon or meat, Saluhallen is where you will find quality Swedish ingredients and exotic delights. There is also some good value lunch cafés inside.

Open: Monday -Friday 9.00-18.00 and Saturday 9.00-15.00.
Getting there: tram 3, 4, 5, 7, 10 to Kungsportsplatsen

Slottsskogen is the green heart of Gothenburg. During summer, the grassy lawns are filled with picnic folk and the tracks with walkers. It also includes an admission free zoo with everything from seals and penguins, to Moose and deer. For the little ones there is also a chance to go horse riding and to meet some friendly farm animals.

Getting there: tram 1, 2, 6, 13 to Linnéplatsen
