Sinking of Marzanna in Poland

Every year in early Spring the children make a doll from old grass, small tree branches and wrap it in some cloths, then they march to the river, burned the doll and throw it into the water.
The ritual of taking the doll out of the kindergarten and either drowning her or burning her was necessary to bring the onset of Spring.
