The Moldy Peaches is a band that was founded in New York by the singers Adam Green and Kimya Dawson. The band consisted of Steve Mertens on base, Strictly Beats on drums, the guitarists Jack Dishel and Toby Goodshank. They released their first album The Moldy Peaches. They are most famous for their songs in the movie Juno. Their most famous song is “Anyone Else But You”. They did two albums but now they all have solo careers. They hit first place on the billboard 200. I’ve only heard the songs from Juno. The band is part of the music style anti-folk. They mostly sing about childhood and being young. The tunes are often very humoristic. Kimya Dawson has a very special and childish voice.
The Moldy Peaches was first active from 1999 to 2004. Then they took a break. 2007 to 2008 they reunited after the success with the Juno soundtrack.
I first heard the music when I watched the movie Juno. It was about four years ago. After that my parents played the Moldy Peaches a lot. Then I forgot about them but now when I had to write about a music band I thought I could write about them.
The song I like most is “Anyone Else But You”. The way I get it is that the song is about a young couple, they are in love with each other but they think that their friendship is more important. They take turns in singing the verses and every verse ends with the line “I don’t se what anyone can see in anyone else but you” I think that these two people feel a bit different from the rest and that they kind of like it and belong together: “We sure are cute for two ugly people”. They really like the other person’s feelings and thoughts: “I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of the train”.
