Lena Fuchs and Cynthia Blau, two 17-year-old Luxembourgish students from Lycée Hubert Clément, Esch. Have come to Sweden this week to visit Westerlundska Gymnasium, to learn more about the Swedish lifestyle as a teenager.  In Luxembourg they take a class called “Cours à option-Digitale Fotografie” and they are in Sweden to compare this class to the Swedish “Media production”

Why did you guys choose “Lycée Hubert Clément” and what is especially good about the school?

-          We both chose this school because we had heard good about it, and it was the school closest to our home cities. The one thing that stands out with the school is the teachers and the school system.

Lena and Cynthia are saying that there are a lot of similarities, but also some differences like the food in Swedish schools is free and in the Luxembourgish schools you must pay for your food. Another difference is that the relation between the students and the teachers in Luxembourg is more polite.

It´s both of their first time in Sweden and their first impression was good but they think that the houses and buildings kind of look like containers. They said that Luxembourg didn´t have any beaches so they really liked the place that they stayed at because it was so close to “Bresand Beach”. They also mentioned that there was raining all year around and that they didn´t have as much snow as Sweden has in the winter.

What is the best thing about Sweden so far?

-          The best things about Sweden are the Swedish meatballs, kladdkakan which is a sticky chocolate cake, but also the nature and the surroundings in general.

Lena is a 17-year-old girl born on august 22, 2007, who is a social and happy person. In her free time, likes to hang out with friends and take pictures. As a hobby she also likes to play soccer in a team called “US Rumelange”.  She described herself as a genuine, calm person who likes to listen to music. She said she listens to a lot of genres but some of her favorites was pop, rap, etc. Lena is not actually from Esch she is from Tétange a 10 minutes bus ride to Esch. She is living in the city with her mother, new husband, her older sister, youngest brother and her chihuahua.

Lena describes Cynthia as a person whom you can always talk to because she is such a good listener but also a person you can have a good laugh with.

Cynthia is a 17-year-old girl born on December 17, 2007. She honest person who likes to talk to people she is comfortable with. In her free time Cynthia works as a paramedic, helping people with their emergencies. A difference with the countries is that in Luxembourg you can work as a paramedic at 16 years old but in Sweden you can start when you are 18. In late spring and summer time Cynthia likes to go to the park and lay in the grass to eat some food and listen to music with her friends. In winter her hobby is to go skiing but there are no mountains in Luxembourg, so she travels with her family and friends 2-3 times a year to Austria and Switzerland. Cynthia isn`t from Esch she is from Belvaux also a 10 minute bus ride. She is living with her grandparents and her dog.

Cynthia describes Lena as the most unpredictable person she knows but you can always talk to her if you need to which makes her a helpful person.

As they mentioned earlier the school cost money and the food is also disgusting compared to the Swedish school food. Last Tuesday Lena, Cynthia and the rest of their class were out in Bresand grilled assuages. It was their first time trying shrimp salad and” Bostongurka”, they both thought it tasted really well. Another Swedish thing they both likes is the Swedish meatballs and newly tried “Kladdkaka” beyond this the food is kind of the same in both countries.

So lastly, would you both like to visit Sweden again after this trip?

-          Yes, but maybe a bigger city like Stockholm  or Gothenburg where there is more stuff to do and more things to see.
