They have been really helpful and very keen to get stuck in

Swedish connections
Students from Sweden have been volunteering in Red Cross shops during the summer as part of an international work experience programme offered by the Municipality of Gävle. The students have been volunteering in Red Cross shops across England and Wales, getting involved with organising special events, serving customers on the till, and helping to process stock.
It is the first time that BRC Retail has taken part in the international work experience programme, and the feedback from managers has been very positive. "They have been really helpful and very keen to get stuck in" said Cathy, Shop Manager of Cardiff Albany Road.
For most of the students this is the first time they have been to the country, or worked in a shop, but they seemed to relish the challenge. "Working at the British Red Cross has really opened my eyes to how valuable the charity shops are, both for the people and the environment" said Swedish student Emelie. "The staff and volunteers were very kind and very helpful, and there was always something for us to help out with" said Swedish student Agnes.
More students from Sweden are expected to sign up to the Programme next summer, and will be looking for shops to volunteer in for two weeks. Please speak to your Retail Volunteer Development Advisor to get your shop involved or for more information.
