The Golden Age of Marketing

Leanne Stewart 2015-12-30

According to Adobe, 68% of marketers in the UK believe we’re in a “golden age of marketing”. If you’ve been working in the industry for any length of time, you’d agree that the world of marketing has definitely entered a new age. But, is that a good thing?

If you ask the respondents in the Digital Roadblock Report for 2015, they’ll tell you it’s a great thing. What they’ll also tell you is that as exciting as the advancements are, they also struggle with keeping up with the constant change marketing in today’s world demands.

As we approach 2016, it doesn’t look like this trend will reverse itself. This means as marketers, we need to find ways to meet these demands while staying relevant to our core objectives.

RAPID CHANGE CREATES NEED FOR CONTINUOUS LEARNING
Marketers taking the Adobe survey reported that they had “heard about a new marketing channel or term within just the past month”, making the pace of change more rapid than most people are prepared to handle. John Watton, head of EMEA marketing for Adobe summarized the report’s findings and highlighted the opportunity as well as the challenges marketers face.

WHAT MARKETERS ARE SAYING

• Eighty-five per¬cent of marketers see the changes in mar¬ket¬ing as an opportunity (UK 85%); nearly half (47%) feel opti¬mistic and are excited (46%) about the changes.

• While opti¬mistic, UK marketers worry about their abil¬ity to keep up (48%, 37% EMEA); they feel under¬pre¬pared for the changes within their indus¬try (41%) and feel they are along for the ride rather than driving change (51%).

• Marketers believe they are expected to adapt to tech advancements to keep pace with the indus¬try (73%), yet only 19% describe them¬selves as tech savvy (early adopter).
