Here are some answers to your questions from Canberra Grammar School in Australia....

Where is your school and how big is it?
We are located in Canberra which is the capital city of Australia. Our whole school from kindergarten to year 12 has around 1500 students - 900 boys in the senior school (years 7 - 12)

Do you have anything similar (optional classes) at your school?

No, we don't actually have anything like that at CGS - we are a fairly traditional school (based on the Englsih system of education), although there are a lot of changes happening in the next few years. Students have 6 periods a day at the moment but this will be 5 next year as we are going to longer lessons. Although we don't have that much flexibility in our classes, students from year 9 onwards do get to delect elective subjects from languages, drama, visual arts, technology and additional english and maths. All our students also have to do a co-curricular sport in both sumer and winter. In summer, cricket is one of the omst popular sports and in winter rugby is very popular. Many students also choose rowing, sailing, skiing, hockey (grass not ice) and basketball. As we are an all boys school most of our sports are "boy" oriented. Many students also study musical instruments and belong to our many orchestras and bands. The boys at our schhool are very busy! All of our teachers also have to participate in co-curricular activities outside of school time - I'm lucky because my co-curricular is skiing!!

How many foreign languages do you learn?

Our students have an option to learn a second language - Latin, French, German or Mandarin. A few students do 2 languages but this is rare. It's hard learning another language in Australia because we don't get the exposure to lots of people speaking in that language (we are so geographically isolated from Europe etc). Many of our students choose to go to a school overseas for a term or at least several weeks.

What do you do in your breaks at your school?

Most of our boys play rugby, cricket, basketball, handball or just "hang out" during breaks at school. Some go to the library and work!!

We don’t wear school uniforms in Swedish schools. What about you?

Our students have to wear a uniform at all times at school - our uniform is like a suit. The boys have to change at school for PE and sport - they are not allowed to wear their sports uniform home from school. You can see our uniform if you go to our school website: www.cgs.act.edu.au

When do the students in your school get their first grades? What are your grades?

Our students get 4 reports a year - 2 smaller "interim" reports and 2 very big reports (grades). We also have parent-teacher evenings where teachers and parents get a short time to talk about the student's progress.

Terms:
we have 4 terms at school - beginning the end of January or early February until easter, then 2 weeks' break, April until end of June - then 3 weeks break, late July until end of September, 2 weeks break, finally the middle of October until early December. Because we are a private school, we get more holidays than most other schools...we get about 14 weeks in the year!

Do you have much homework to do in the afternoon? How many do you have every day?

Our students are expected to do homework each day and often on the weekends....some teachers give more than others! If students regularly don't do their homework they may have to do "study support" or get a detention.
