Hi Poland!

Albin Svensson 2008-02-10

My name is Albin Svensson and I’m a Swedish student. I’m 15 years old. The school I go in is called “Torskolan”. That is a compulsory school. Soon I’m going to start High School. In “Torskolan” we are 3 to 4 classes in every grade with about 20-30 students in each class. We go from 8.a.m to 3.p.m in school. Someday we end at 2.p.m. Here in Sweden we don’t have to wear school uniform. We use our own clothes. I think that is better. If you want to, you can buy breakfast at the mornings in the dining hall. It’s very cheap and you can choose from a lot of things. I eat breakfast at home because I live just about 300 meters from school. Nearly everyday we have a lesson called assembly when we meet. Then we discuss things or just go out for a walk. At the breaks we can go to a youth centre. There we can sit and talk, play billiard, card, table tennis and buy bread, juice, coffee and other things. We can’t buy candy and soda. Across the road from our school we have a shop where we can buy candy or soda and other things. Can you buy candy and soda in your school? If we have long breaks we can go home or go to the pizza and eat there. But we often eat in our dining hall. It costs nothing to eat there and the food is often good. Besides the potatoes they are really bad! They are hard and have sometimes black dots on them. When you come in to the dining hall you have to take off your jacket and hat. Then you go to the food counter and take your food. And when you are finished you clear the take yourself. Every grade in our school doesn’t have breaks at the same time. The dining hall should be full if everyone had that at the same time. We have homework nearly every day. When I went in grade 6 I had more homework than I have now. That’s strange I think. But that’s good so you can do more things on your spare time. We have P.E two times a week and you can choose to have it 3 times a week. At the P.E lessons we have many different things like football, tennis, running and a lot of other things. We have two sports halls but one is quite small. The older students must often have the biggest hall. The sports hall is about 300 meters from school. In our school you can choose if you want to learn German, French or Spanish. I have chosen German but when I start High school I’m going to quit that. In our classroom we have two computers and every grade has a computer room with about 20 computers. We have some lessons periods in the week when we can choose what we want to do. That is good I think. Our lessons are often 1 hour long but we have lessons that are about 40 minutes and 1 and a half hour long. How long are your lessons? After school the busses come. They go home 10 minutes past 3. One bus is going home half past 3. Do you have school busses? But I cycle to and from school. But next year when I’m going to High school I have to go by for about 40 minutes.
