Bristol Murder

This book is written by Philip Prowse

The book takes place in Bristol, England. It’s about a normal guy called Peter who is a long-distance lorry driver. According to me Peter is a nice and hard working man. Peter’s father died when he was young so now he lives with his mother in Brigdewater. For some years ago Peter and some friends were smashing cars and making a big mess on the streets. But that was a long time ago and Peter has changed. One day when he was driving to Manchester, a young boy stood at the side of the road and he was hitch-hiking. Peter stopped and the boy stepped on the lorry. His name was John. He said he had run away from home.

They drove to a café and there they started to talk. Both John’s mother and father are dead so he lives with his uncle, Robert Stevens. Peter asked why John had run away from home. John told Peter how his uncle didn’t let him go on a movie with his friends. I feel sorry for John because it seems to me that John doesn’t like his uncle. But since John’s parents are dead he has no other choise. When he came back home from the cinema his uncle was furious. He was so mad at John that he hit him. Then John hit him back, and his uncle fell on the floor. John got frightened and ran away. I can understand why John ran away. I would also be scared if I had the police after me. Peter read in the newspaper that the police had found John’s uncle dead and are now searching for John. But John knows he didn’t kill him. Now Peter wants to help John. Peter is very nice because if the police finds out that Peter has helped John, he could be in big trouble.

During the adventure John meets a really nice girl that he likes on the cinema. The girls name is Susan. But it was to good to be true. After the cinema John founds out that Susan has got a boyfriend. Because suddenly someone shouts “Hey, you”. John turns around and it was Steve, Susan’s boyfriend. But he wasn’t alone, Steve had three friends with him. “We’re going to teach you not to try to steal my girlfriend”, said Steve. John was very scared but in the last minute, Peter came and rescued John.

Peter said he knew someone who could help them. And his name was Bob Steel. When they arrived at Bob Steel, Peter asked what he knew about the murder. Bob said he didn’t know much.
“Look, said Bob Steel, I can find out a lot more but you must give me a little time. Come back after lunch and bring the money”
I think Bob Steel only thinks about money here. He doesn’t really want to help John and Peter. While they were waiting John and Peter went in to a café. In the café they had lunch and afterwards they went back to Bob Steel. Bob asked if John and Peter had the money. Then John and Peter asked if Bob had the information they wanted. Bob said he’ll tell the information he had.
“Mr. Stevens was killed for money. He was killed by someone who knew him. He was killed by someone young”
I don’t know if Bob wanted to mislead them because Bob’s description on the murder fits in on John but he can also be telling the truth. John and Peter weren’t happy with that informatiom so Bob didn’t get all the money.
“I’ll give you the rest of the money when you say the name of the murderer”, said Peter.
They arranged a place to meet again soon. But can they really trust Bob Steel?

I think the book was middle good. Because at least I found out too soon who was the murderer. But on the other hand the book was easy to read. It was only a few words that were hard to understand. Philip Prowse divides the book in many chapters which makes it easier to read. It’s also good that it comes a picture once in a while. You understand the situation better then. I would recommend this to everyone who likes a good adventure. But as I said before I don’t think it was a mystery.
