Shirley A. McClinton 2006-03-16

Sussex Avenue School in Newark, New Jersey is searching for schools to participate in a "World Wildcat Alliance". The Wildcat is the school's mascot. He wants to travel the world to meet different people in different cultures to form alliances. Please send your name, school, address and email address to swatson@nps.epals.com if you are interested. The deadline to apply is March 24, 2006.

The purpose of this project is to develop knowledge of the world and its people through reading, writing, social studies, science, math, and technology. Students will learn about children their own age and discover the similarities and differences between themselves and their new friends. Teachers can also learn from each other - projects done in classrooms, curriculum and management ideas, use of technology, etc.

Pictures

Wildcat would like you send us a picture of your class so he/she can remember her visit with you. This can be a photograph that you mail to us or an image taken with a digital camera sent to us via e-mail.
We’d also like to have a picture that represents your geographical region. For example, if you live near mountains, maybe you’d like to send us a picture of them.
Do you live in a city, suburb, or a rural area? What ethnic groups live in your community? What have people built to make it easier to live -- parks, roads, and bridges?

Books and poetry

Wildcat would like you to read the books that she/he has brought with him/her. These books will help you understand her habitat and geographic location. Then, he/she would like you to read books that explain habitats in your geographic region. Wildcat loves to read and write poetry. He/She would like you to write poetry about the habitat, animal in the habitat, or plant in the habitat. You can use any poetry format that you like, such as haiku.

Temperature

Wildcat would like to have a record of the temperature from the different places she visited. Please measure and record the temperature for each day of the week he/she is with you. Then e-mail that information to us.
