My Holiday in USA

Adam Jonsson 2004-10-20

Monday Day 1 At 7 o’clock grandma and grandpa came to help us to the railway station in Karlskrona . We met Ann-Christine my English teacher in Bergkvara on a bike. She was going to her job in Torsås. When we got there we waited for the train. When the train came we said goodbye to each other.

We took our luggages and walked in to the train. The train went to Kastrup in Denmark. It took about 4 hours. In Kastrup we checked in our luggages. We went to our gate and waited for the plane. At half past 2 we could go onto the plane. Thirty minutes later the plane rolled out to the runaway. It took 3 Hours to fly to Keflavik on Island, where it was sunny and very cold. When we had got our luggage’s where we went out and tried to find out how we should come to Rejkavik. We found a bus that went to Rejkavik from Keflavik Airport. It took about 45minutes. It’s five mile between Keflavik and Rejkavik. The landscape is very monotonous with stony. We saw a lot of gejsers when we took the bus in to the hotel in Rejkavik. The climate was cold about zero degrees with hard wind. There were cracks in the ground. The hotel was very nice, big room and bathroom and they had a TV. On the TV they showed The two tower and other movies. From the window we had a nice view over Rejkavik and a mountain.

Tuesday Day 2

When we woke up we got downstairs and ate breakfast. There were many things to chose from. There were strawberries like eggs in size. And there were 5 drinks to chose from. You could eat how much you wanted. After breakfast we went out and looked around a little. We were not out so long time because it was cold and very windy. But almost every car we saw when we were out was 4-wheel-driven or Bigfoot. At 2 the bus came to drive us to Keflavik airport. When we were there we cheeked in our luggages and went to the gate and wait. When we had taken our seats in the plane and rolled out on the runaway they started the TV. They showed Big fish, It was a good film. They had also good food on the plane. The flight took 4 hours. We landed on John F Kennedy Airport in New York. It was a very hard security in the airport. All of us on the plane were forced to fill in a paper before we passed through the customs. When we were done there we took our luggages and took the bus to the hotel. The bus drove around the JFK airport in 45 minutes to pick up people at every exit. The bus took us to the hotel. Our hotel was on Manhattan Broadway 27 street. We were at the hotel at 21.00. It was not so big but there were good staff and good rooms with TV and they had a lot of TV channel.

Wednesday Day 3

We went up and ate breakfast. It’s doughnut with and without chocolate on, Danish pasty, juice, apple orange, coffee, tea. The first thing we did was to go to Madison Square Garden. That’s where you see the big boxing matches, and other sports like basket or something else. But today there was a circus there. To the right on Madison was Penn Station, New York’s biggest railway station. From there we took the train to Washington on Sunday. We bought the ticket to Washington and looked around there. After that we went to Empire State Building. It was big security there too. Like that one at the airport. We lined up for about 3 hours before we were all way up in the top. When we stood in the line some of them there asked where we were from. We said Sweden. They gave us a big applause. They liked people from Sweden. When we had come up we were there about 1 hour. It was a good view up there.

Thursday Day 4

We walked around in Broadway and looked.

Friday Day 5

Today we went and looked at UN building. There were many flags along the building. We saw the knotted Gun. Then we went to Rockefeller center that CBS have the office. After that we went to Central Park. We saw one icetrack in there. And there were people on the ice. We saw also many squirrels. They were not so afraid of people. On our way home to the hotel we walked through Time square and Broadway theater. In Time Square you can see most advertising and neon signs in the whole world in one place.

Saturday Day 6

Today we took one of the 16 000 yellow Taxis in New York to Battery Park. From there we took a boat out to the Statue of the Liberty. We were there for about 1 Hour. Then we took the boat back to Battery Park. But first they made a stop on Ellis Island where all emigrants first came to. In Battery Park. There were big stones with names on for them to see who died in the second wold war. After that we went to see where the Wold Trade Center had been. Now they call the place Ground Zero. Then we walked along Wall Street, the old finance center. On the way home to our hotel we walked through China Town. There were markets every where.

Sunday Day 7

We unpacked our luggages and walked to Penn Station. From Penn Station we went by train to Washington D.C. It took 4 hours. It’s 30 to 40 Swedish miles between New York and Washington. We walked to the exit and we met our friend Trevor Gunn. He welcomed us and droves us home to the people where we should stay ifor one week. When we got there all were happy to see us. The dinner was ready. But first we went out in the garden and looked for some Easter eggs. The family is Trevor and his wife Anna and 3 children. The oldest child is Alexander next Philip then Ida.

Monday Day 8

Today we drove in to Washington and took a look in museum. All museums are free in Washington. But they have big security in all. First we visited a dinosaur museum. Then we went to an air and space museum. We saw the Apollo capsule. In there you can see Charles Lindbergh’s airplane Spirit of S:t Louis. It was the first plane that crossed the Atlantic Ocean. We saw speedfire the English airplane in the Second World War. We saw the German’s planes and japan’s planes too. I think you could have gone there and looked for a whole day to see everything.

Tuesday Day 9

Mum and I were home when dad drove Philip to his Spanish lesson. When he came back we walked around a little in the residential area Chavy Chase where we lived. When Anna came home she took us to Betshada gallery. There we looked around a little. The biggest store we have in Sweden is as the smallest in USA. Today it rained all day.

Wednesday 10

Anna drove us to the subway station. We took self-the subway to Washington D.C. and had a look at the capital. Then we went to Trevor’s job. It is just beside The White House. Then we took the subway back. It rained all the day also this day.

Thursday Day 11

Today we looked at all countrie’s ambassies. All have big and beautiful houses except Sweden. They has according in office house. Finland was the best ambassador house. In the evening we looked at a NBA match in basket in Washington D.C. It was Washington Wizard vs New Orleans Hornet. New Orleans won the match with 75-86. But it was fun to watch it. This is also the Washington Capital arena in NHL. The Arena was like Globen in size.

Friday Day 12

Today we started with visiting The White House. On its roof we could see guards with weapons. After that we looked at Washington highest building. In Washington are no sky-high houses. After that we went to the Vietnam veteran member place. There was a wall with all the names of the soldiers who were killed in the war. It was 3 meters tall. Just beside it was a member place from the Korean War. They have made statues of the soldier who was going between graves in a mine land. It was nasty. Then we went to the Abraham Lincoln member place. They have built a house and in the house they had built a statue of him. After that Anna drove us to the Arlington national cemetery where we saw the tomb of the unknown soldier’s and John F Kennedy gravesites. His wife and his two children are on each side of him. Arlington national cemetery is 260 acres big. After we had looked at this we went home. It was time to say goodbye. We had to fly home. Anna drove us to Baltimore airport, 50 Swedish kilometers. It took about 3 hours. They had a bigger security there than they have on JFK airport. Because they had have terrorist threats. Red is the highest security today they had yellowed. We flew to Keflavik to change planes and then we flew to Copenhagen. Then we took a train to Karlskrona. There waited Grandma and Grandpa. They drove us home to Ekaryd. We already want back to USA.

The End!
