Vasaloppet

Vasaloppet is the world´s longest and biggest cross country skirace. 16 000 people took part in the race this year. It's an international competition over 90 km in classic style. And it goes from Sälen to Mora in Dalarna in Sweden. It was between these two places that our Swedish king Gustav Vasa once ran away on his skis  towards Norway in 1521.

The race is on the first Sunday in March every year. The opening year was 1922. The first year a woman was allowed to participate was in 1981. The race has been cancelled a few times because there has been too little snow. The fastest time/result is 3,38,57 h. In the race there are some control stations where the skiers can get something to drink. These stations are in Smågan, Mångsbodarna,
Risberg, Evertsberg, Oxberg, Hökberg and Eldris.
A person who has won the race many times is Nils ”Mora-Nisse” Karlsson. The winner of this year was DanielTynell
