The Liberation Front was set up in 1941 by the representatives of the Communists, Christian Socialists, democratic Sokoli (Falcons) and members of progressive Slovene culture. This was an antifascist coalition. They organized rebellion against the oppressor of the World War 2.
Numerous celebrations are prepared on this day around Slovenia remembering how strong and united Slovenes were to oppose, rebel and finally defeat the oppressor.
This Monument of Freedom, situated in front of the local theatre in Celje, is one of the finest. It is dedicated to the soldiers and victims of WW2 in Slovenia. Its sculptor is Jakob Savinek (1922-1961).
